Roicy Duhon Animal Shelter

The members of the local rescue groups and citizens of Lafayette Parish and surrounding communities, would like the Roicy Duhon Animal Shelter to work towards adopting a no-kill policy. This goal can be realized by implementing changes that willl lower the kill-rates of cats, dogs, and other companion animals, while continuing to conserve public health and safety. Programs can be implemented to allow citizens to have an increased involvement in shelter operations and provide cost-effective options to the current system. The condition of our animal popluation is indicative of the efficacy of our local government and citizens. The most important issue, is that these changes would better reflect the heart of the Acadiana residents.

This petition promotes the following changes:

1. A trap, neuter and return program, because 70% of animals killed at animal control are cats.
2. Injectible euthanasia as opposed to gassing.
3. Spay and neuter clinic/program so that no animal leaves the shelter unaltered.

Signing this petition shows that you are in support of these changes, in addition to any other changes deemed necessary to promote humane practices at Roicy Duhon Animal Shelter.  Thank you!

Stats taken directly from Roicy's records:
In 2007:
5355 animals were killed (130/week!!)
1300 more cats were killed than dogs
827 of those were healthy animals
2732 had conditions that were treatable
