Give a Child a Quality Education - The Gift that Keeps Giving
Charity: St. Francis School. Categories: Children and Youth Community Education Human Rights . I am the principal of St. Francis School, an inner-city, Catholic school in Cleveland, Ohio. This school has been under the direction of the Sisters of Notre Dame and has been operating in Cleveland for over 100 years. We are a K-8 school with over 200 children. We provide quality education to low-income, urban children. The student body is 97% African-American and 3% Hispanic. Many of the children who live around our school want to come here but their parents can't afford the tuition. 86% of our families live well below the poverty level. I have started a Sponsor Program aimed at giving these children the opportunity to receive a quality education. Most of the children begin here in Kindergarten at five years old. We give them a firm foundation in the basic skills of reading, math and English. We also offer a state-of-the-art technology program, an arts program and a sports program. A good education will make it possible for these children to move on to high school and attend college. The high school graduation rate from the public school in our area is about 36%. Most of our children, when they graduate from St. Francis, go on to private high schools and then on to college. Quality education is what these children need more that anything. Would you like to be a sponsor? Tuition is $3450 per year/per child. Donations, in any amount, are appreciated.
