OPERATION: PROTECT PATIENTS' RIGHTS, by NORML Foundation
To My Fellow Cannabis Crusaders, There is a new battle in war on marijuana prohibition. This time the fight has been taken to the great state of Maine indefense of medical marijuana patients to ensure their rights, andguarantee access to their medicine in dispensaries set up across thestate. Here's the low-down:History: In 1999 the people of Maine voted to legalized marijuana for medical use.Problem: The bill has been faced with unnecessary legal challenges and prevented seriously ill patients from having access to their rightful medicine.Activism: There is a renewed effort, coordinated by the Maine Citizens for Patients Rights, to qualify a new voter initiative that would make general improvements to the law (see below for details**)Call-to-Action: They need our help in raising money to collect the required number of signatures needed for the initiative to appear on the ballot.Solution:A modest investment today can assure this measure qualifies for theballot, and current polling indicates strong public support for theproposal when it reaches the voters in November of 2009. **Overview of Proposed Amendments to Medical Use Law: 1) It allows the establishment of registration certificates for nonprofit dispensaries 2) It expands the list of medical conditions 3) It directs the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) to issue registry ID cards to patients and caregivers 4) Directs DHHS to establish application and renewal fees for successfulimplementation and administration of the above provisions. This is a significant battle in the war on marijuana prohibition and the momentum behind our fight is becoming a stronger and louder force everyday. The Medical Marijuana movement is progressively moving into the mainstream, and your state could be next! Please help me support this new Maine medical use initiative by making a donation. It's fast, easy, and secure. Thanks so much for your support - and please don't forget to forward this page to any friends you think might be interested.Your fellow freedom fighter,Sabrina NORMLTags: Fundraising goal: 1000, Amount raised: 25, Donors: 1, In support of: NORML Foundation
