Giving Back to Israel, by Jill Weatherhead

This is a video I took of Israel with his doctor, Doctora Gutierrez, and his mother during a clinic visit in August 2008.

Thanks for visiting our fundraising page! Y Bienvenido.  We, Becca Dondlinger, Mariel Janowksy, and Jill Weatherhead, are alumni of the Child Family Health International (CFHI) Bolivia program summer 2008. We met during our stay in Bolivia and were inspired by the amazing experience we shared.

Our goal is to raise money to support CFHI's (Child Family Health International) Bolivia Program and a special patient we were fortunate enough to meet during our program.  Israel Aguila Escobar is a three year old boy living in El Alto, a subsection of the city of La Paz, Bolivia. He was born with a rare genetic disorder called Seckel Syndrome known for microcephaly (small head), low-birth weight type dwarfism, mental retardation, cranial-facial and dental anomalies as well as skeletal deformities including hip dislocation, clubfoot, clinodactyly of the 5th fingers and scoliosis. At this time he weighs about 3 kg and is 50 cm tall. Israel is currently learning how to walk but will require physical therapy, orthopedic shoes and a walker during this learning process and may need surgery in the future. He is also working on his language skills and loves to interact with students and with his Doctor, Doctora Gutierrez at Hospital de Los Andes. Many of the health services that Israel needs now and will need in the future are not covered by the Bolivian national health insurance SUMI. Israel, his family and Doctora Gutierrez have offered students that rotate through CFHI’s Bolivian Pediatric service a unique opportunity to learn about a rare genetic disorder. The students who have gained knowledge from this medical encounter want to ensure that we give back to Israel and his family in hopes that his sacrifice will be beneficial for his future.

Please help us support Child Family Health International Bolivia and our patient Israel Aguila Escobar by making a donation. It's fast, easy, and secure.

Gracias a ud. por su ayuda y apoyo! Thank you for your help and support - and please don't forget to forward this page to any friends you think might be interested.
