Razoo's Interview with The Case Foundation
By Peter Deitz Posted on January 08, 2008
Razoo has published an interview with The Case Foundation about their $50,000 Giving Challenge.
Here's an excerpt:
How has technology changed the face of giving?
As it has done [so] in many areas, technology changes the relationships between people and between the information and resources they need to take action. In the area of giving, all the activity we are seeing is still nascent. People are still learning what the technology can do for them and what they can do with the technology. Still, it's very clear that people, especially younger people, are ready to embrace these technologies not just as ways to socialize or entertain but as tools to affect the change they wish to see and as a forum for discussion and action.
What are some of the most effective uses of technology in the civic engagement space that you've seen?
They are quite a few. Six Degrees on Network for Good has demonstrated that things like charity badges have the power to spread a message and spur individuals to give. Causes on Facebook has attracted millions of people to declare what it is that matters to them and Razoo is showing us that people will use social networking to organize around giving through everyday activities, as well as driving home the idea that it's really the combined power of small gifts and small coordinated actions that matter.

What is the mission/vision of the Case Foundation?
In creating the Case Foundation in 1997, Steve and Jean Case were interested in how they might bring the experiences and expertise developed during their careers in the for-profit sector to make a contribution to bring lasting change to entrenched social problems. The Foundation's focus has always been on supporting individuals and organizations that have the qualities of leadership, collaboration and innovation and that are scalable and sustainable.
